Today is World Schizophrenia Day and it is a day to raise awareness of schizophrenia and the challenges faced by millions of people living with a diagnosis of schizophrenia worldwide. Schizophrenia is a serious mental illness that causes disturbances in thoughts, perceptions, emotions and behaviour and is very often a misunderstood condition. That doesn’t mean there isn’t hope. Schizophrenia can be successfully managed. The earlier schizophrenia is detected and treated, the better the chances of recovery.
World Schizophrenia Day presents us with an opportunity to learn more about the illness, challenge the stigma around mental ill health, highlight supports available for people living with schizophrenia and their families / carers, and to spread the message that recovery is possible.
On World Schizophrenia Day, we are delighted to share Lyanne’s story with you. Lyanne, who uses Shine services, lives with a diagnosis of schizophrenia. In this video, taken from our Shine People series, Lyanne talks about living with schizophrenia and about the support tools she uses to help manage her recovery. Shine People focuses on the person themselves, not just their diagnosis.

Thank you so much to Lyanne for sharing her story with us.
