Covid-19 disrupted the usual way of service operation, which included the interruption of groups such as the Creative Writing one being run in Dublin Resource Centre. Feeling the absence, the team at the Resource Centre organised a national writing competition that resulted in the publication of this book.
“Speaking Words” is an anthology of written work centred around the theme of social isolation. The entire collection is penned by people that used Shine services throughout the Covid-19 lockdowns. The book also includes photographs taken by Dublin Resource Centre Photography Club.
Mary Cregan, lecturer in English Literature and author of “The Scar: A Personal History of Depression and Recovery”, was the competition judge and will be speaking at the launch.
We will also feature a short video including excerpts from the book as well as an introduction by author Brian Keenan.
Duration: 30 minutes
