Shine Ambassador Zoe Crotty shares her journey with depression, learning to understand her mental health and live with it rather than be ruled by it.

In her new blog, Shine Ambassador Rebecca Gilmartin shares how her experience with psychosis has helped her learn to speak openly to help normalise conversations around mental health.

Over the past few days Shine has heard from people with lived and living experience of mental illness who were deeply affected by the recent RTÉ Investigates programmes. In particular, we were contacted by older parents, especially mothers, of adult children who have experienced psychotic episodes.

Recent reporting by RTÉ has highlighted cases where people experiencing acute psychosis have been detained in prison because appropriate mental health care was not available.

A number of people have contacted Shine today having heard coverage on RTÉ news of tonight’s RTE Investigates programme about people experiencing psychosis being held in prison because appropriate mental health care was not available.

Shine, in collaboration with Mental Health Reform and the HSE National Clinical Programme for Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP), has today launched the 2025 National Survey of the Experiences of People Living with Psychosis in Ireland.

Shine’s Media Programme today announced the shortlist for the Mental Health Media Awards 2025, recognising excellence in Irish media coverage of mental health across all platforms.

Always at this time of year, as the Green Ribbon Campaign draws to a close, in Shine we take time to reflect on its effectiveness, what worked well and what can be improved upon in working to achieve our aim of reducing stigma around mental illness.
