Increase funding for Early Intervention Psychosis care and support in Ireland

Psychosis is an illness and an experience that is still much stigmatised.

The experience of psychosis significantly affects the lives of the individual and their families, causing a disruption to their education, employment and community life.

Department of Health alongside the HSE developed the HSE National Clinical Programme for the Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) and in 2019 Minister of State with responsibility for Mental Health and Older People pledged to “Invest to Save” in this programme.

The Early Intervention in Psychosis Model of Care is progressive. It recognises the whole life of the person and puts recovery of the person, not the illness, in its centre. With this model of care, recovery is a very real and tangible thing. Specific and tailored interventions within the model, support people to recover and return to education, work, and community living effectively.

Shine is calling for the Minister of State to increase and sustain the required funding for psychosis specific support in Ireland.
